Redmi Note 7S Announced

Remember, how the Chinese version of the Redmi Note 7 didn’t make its way to India? Instead, Xiaomi brought a slightly downgraded version that was running a lower-res & quality main camera sensor. Well, that model didn’t seem to attract the Indian consumers as much as it’s Pro variant. So, Xiaomi is trying to fill that void now by bringing the goods of that Chinese variant, renamed & remade for India. They’re calling it, the Redmi Note 7S and it sits between the Redmi Note 7 & the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Now, you won’t be getting the gradient finishes of the Chinese Redmi Note 7. That is something Xiaomi is keeping exclusive for the Redmi Note 7 Pro, here in India. Instead, we have the standard Black, Blue & Red color options to choose from. Also, it has the same waterdrop notch as well. They’re keeping the 4000 mAh Battery, the USB Type-C port and yet there is no support for Fast Charging. You’ll get the same 10W power adapter in the box.

If you are aware, the regular Redmi Note 7 (in India) has a 12MP main camera with a 2MP depth-sensing camera.  So, having that 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor really makes a huge difference here. However, you need to remember that unlike the IMX586 from Sony, the GM1 isn’t a true 48MP sensor. But, it’s still way better from the 12MP sensor on the regular Note 7. The front camera remains the same though.

Pricing & Availability

So, how much a major Camera sensor upgrade will cost you? Well thankfully, the price gap isn’t huge. The regular Redmi Note 7 starts at 9999 INR for the 3GB, 32GB variant and if you want a 3GB, 32GB variant of Redmi Note 7S, it’ll cost you 1K more. So, the Redmi Note 7S starts at 10999 INR while the 6GB, 64GB variant will cost you 12999 INR. The first sale of the Redmi Note 7S is happening on 23rd May at 12 noon on Flipkart.
